Today I’m sharing with you some thoughts on the role connecting to the spiritual presence of Mother Earth can play in healing & I’m sharing a short guided meditation.
You can listen to me reading this piece here (the guided practice starts at 4mins 10secs):
Are you in touch with your inner child? Or even your inner children? …The wounded child, the happy child, the angry child, the divine child…
We humans are all a collection of different parts. We are each of us both one person and multitudes.
We are the sum of our life experience so far. And all those parts of ourselves at every age still live within us. Some may be quite young, others teenage, others adult. Some of them may feel happy and content, empowered and strong. Others may feel vulnerable and need your kind attention.
A profound part of my own healing journey has been to get in touch with these different parts and patiently listen to them, validate their experience and feelings and show them respect and love.
Communicating with the more vulnerable parts with love, compassion and encouragement can bring healing and integration to your whole self.
And in my own personal journey something that has contributed hugely to my ability to hold all parts of myself with self-compassion has been to remember that there is another loving mother always present, always holding us, always with us.
And that is the spiritual presence of Mother Earth.
The strong, nurturing, stable presence beneath your feet.
I find sensing into this loving strength beneath me and around me is enormously comforting.
And with this comfort comes a reminder that my vulnerable inner child is only one part of me.
Because not all parts of ourselves are wounded. Acknowledging the parts that feel strong and capable is empowering and can be a source of inner strength and resilience when you feel down and defeated.
So, like Mother Earth, I too can be strong and capable, loving and kind, wise and nurturing.
When I invoke this mother energy within myself, my scared inner child relaxes and in doing so she morphs back into her true nature: the magical, creative, divine child that lives in all our hearts.
Next time you get the chance, sit or lie down on the earth.
And let yourself be held by Her, Mother Earth – the Great Mother of us all.
Feel Her loving presence and strength within your heart and bones.
And know that you are not alone.
The following poem, from my book I Am With You, speaks to the healing sense of feeling held and connected to something greater that I experience when I lean into the spiritual presence of Mother Earth:
Returning
So she lay herself down
On Mother Earth’s green mantle,
And her heart beat in rhythm
With the pulse of the planet,
Her blood flowed
With the tides of the moon,
Her bones became as strong
As the rocks, roots and trees,
Her soul soared
With the birds in the sky.
And as the Great Mother held her
She knew now
That she would never again be defeated
Because she had become the mother to herself
She never truly had.
Now, read on for a guided practice to help you feel held and protected by Mother Earth…
Mother Earth Visualisation
Tune into the Mother Earth’s protective presence with this visualisation. (Listen to this in the recording above.)
Either sit somewhere indoors where you can be undisturbed or sit outdoors, perhaps near a tree.
As you sit, imagine or become aware of the ground covered with green grass all around you – surrounding you…
Feel into its nurturing, protective energy…
And imagine now that you can draw this green mantle around you – like a cloak of protection…
Feel its heaviness and warmth over your shoulders and cloaking your body…
Draw its hood over your head…
Feel protected by this green mantle and affirm to yourself:
‘I am protected, always’.
And know that whenever you need to, you can psychically draw this green mantle of protection around you.
(Thank you to Priestess Marion Brigantia for this practice, which I experienced on my Priestess training with her.)
Until next time, wishing you the healing blessings of tender & fierce self-compassion,
Stella x
